Madhumita Sen (Saha) is a talented singer with Masters degrees in Psychology, in classical music and in devotional music. She also specializes in Gazals and semi classical music.
Madhumita acquired the following degrees: “Sangeet Prabhakar” ( Bachelor degree ) from Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad ; “Sangeet Bhaskar” ( Masters Degree ) from
Pracheen Kala Kendra Chandigarh and Masters degree in Devotional Music from Bangiya Kala Kendra, Kolkata.
Madhumita’s great artistic temperament and exceptional aesthetic sensibility has left an indelible impression on the minds of her audiences and critics alike.
Madhumita hails from a family of musicians.
At the age of 6, she started learning under the guidance of her mother the late Smt. Chitra Sen and her sister Mrs. Kalpana Roy. She started her formal lessons with Smt. Babli Bhattacharya.
Later, she had the privilege of receiving extensive training in the different styles of Hindustani classical vocal music from the nationally known vocal artist of the Gwalior Gharana, the late
Pandit Sitaram Haridandekar. His guindence helped Madhumita develop the real essence of other styles in her music.
The late Pandit Sitaram Haridandekar was a disciple of the late Pandit D.V. Paluskar.
Madhumita was a regular AIR and television artist when she lived in India.
At present Madhumita is a disciple of Padmasri Vidushi Sumitra Guha, a well-known artist of India and abroad, and a disciple of legendary artist the late Vidushi Malabika Kanan.
With her she acquired new dimensions to her singing, giving it the required mastery of ragas and voice culture.
She was awarded the Hianc Heritage Award for excellence in Music in October 4, 2015, from the Heritage India Association of North Carolina ,USA.
She was awarded the ‘Sangeet Ratna’ award, on July 27, 2014, at the Pt. Gama Maharaj Memorial Music Festival at India Habitat center in Delhi, India.
She was awarded the Governor's award, on November 18th, 2006, at HSNC in Morrisville, North Carolina , USA.
She received excellence awards from M.I.T Union Arts Club in 1973, in Muzaffarpur, India, as well as from the
Nehru Yuvak Kendra in 1976, from Sanskar Bharti in 1978, and from Sangeet Shakha in 1989.
